Restoration and Future Planning

Restoration Map

Restoration - what does it mean? To Canada Line, restoration means returning things to their preconstruction condition and where we can, improving them. This means restoring roads and access points along the length of Canada Line corridor and replanting and revitalizing around the construction areas.

The following page will provide ongoing updates as restoration proceeds.

For additional information on restoration activities please view Canada Line's Restoration Bulletins and Notices, or view the Canada Line Cambie Restoration Map.

Future Planning

Future planning developments will fit seamlessly around the Canada Line - this is called Transit-Oriented Developments or TODs. These are urban villages, characterized by compact neighbourhoods containing a range of housing types. All residents are within a 5 - 10 minute walk of quick, efficient public transit. For more information on TODs please see the PDFs below.

puzzleCambie Heritage Boulevard – Replanting the Boulevard

Cambie Blvd

Canada Line is being built under and beside one of Vancouver's heritage jewels - the Cambie Heritage Boulevard - a wide strip of mature and significant trees.  CLCO has maintained its commitment to minimize the impact of construction on the Boulevard; as part of that commitment, 2007 saw the beginning of the restoration of the Boulevard.  The Project, working with the Cambie Heritage Boulevard Society, marked the restoration in a ceremony that included the replanting of several Japanese cherry trees that were gifts from the Japanese government.  The trees were rededicated by the Japanese Consul General Seiichi Otsuka.

For more information about the Cambie Heritage Boulevard Replanting please view Restoration Information Bulletin No. 1.

puzzleImproving Local Neighbourhoods

Over the past year, CLCO has worked closely with the City of Vancouver to develop both Cambie Street and downtown Granville Street into "great streets" by improving their urban design and enhancing public realm elements.  The City has held several workshops and open houses with the community and business improvement associations to refine the designs, in particular to ensure they support retail activity.

CLCO is also working with the City of Richmond on the implementation of their No. 3 Road Vision.  This Project will significantly improve the look and feel of No. 3 Road, and support Richmond's vision for a vibrant city centre area.
