Health, Safety and the Environment

The Canada Line will be built safely, professionally and in an environmentally responsible manner, adhering to all legislative and regulatory requirements.

A paramount concern during construction is the safety of workers, nearby residents and businesses, and the general public. We will promote a safe working environment for the people who are building the Canada Line and for the people who live and work along the route. Construction areas will be well managed and detailed construction, traffic and environmental management plans will be followed.

As part of this process we are committed to:
  • Reviewing and managing environmental issues such as fish habitat, air and noise quality, archaeology and landscape restoration;
  • Working with businesses to manage construction impacts within safety, schedule and cost constraints;
  • Ensuring the project is designed, constructed and operated with care and attention to the neighbourhoods it will serve; and
  • Complying with air quality objectives as agreed to with the Greater Vancouver Regional District.

Cambie Heritage Boulevard
Protecting and preserving the Cambie Heritage Boulevard is an important part of the Canada Line construction. The line itself will not run immediately below the Boulevard, but will generally run under northbound traffic lanes of Cambie Street, thereby avoiding significant and long-term impact to the Boulevard. During construction of the Canada Line, we are committed to:
  • Protecting the Sequoia trees at the north end of Cambie Street;
  • Ensuring no net loss of green-space;
  • Pruning, transplanting or replacing any affected trees; and
  • Working with the City of Vancouver and the local community to preserve and enhance the Cambie Heritage Boulevard trees and landscape where possible.
